Fire disaster occurred at the Ojoto market of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area, Rivers State. The incident which occurred on Thursday 13:04:2023 around 10:00pm destroyed about 400 shops and affected over 400 persons.

According to Mr. Akupue Robinson, Chairman of the Market, the incident occurred when traders had closed business for the day and therefore the actual cause of the fire outbreak could not be ascertained as at the time of the assessment. Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, SEMA, Nigerian Red Cross were earlier activated to respond to the incident. No lives were lost but buildings and property were destroyed by the ravaging fire.
