Media advisory: signing ceremony between Italy and UNICEF to strengthen the civil registration system in Ethiopia

Event: Financial contribution signing ceremony between Italy and UNICEF

Date and Time: Wednesday 7 December 2016 at 09:00 am

Venue: Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (inside the Embassy of Italy compound in Addis Ababa)

Participants:

  • H.E. Giuseppe Mistretta, Ambassador of Italy to Ethiopia
  • Mrs. Ginevra Letizia, Director of the Addis Ababa Office of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation
  • Ms. Gillian Mellsop, UNICEF Representative to Ethiopia
  • Representative of Ethiopian Government (TBC)

Italy and UNICEF will be signing a financing agreement for an initiative entitled “Strengthening the Civil Registration System for Children’s Rights to Identity: “Identification for Development” (ID)”. The project will be implemented over a period of 12 months in the Regions of Oromia and SNNPR in Ethiopia.

The funding aims to contribute to children’s rights to identity through the improvement and standardization of the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) system and thereby, protect them from violence, abuse, exploitation and ensure their access to basic services. The support comes at a critical time when Ethiopia established nationwide a fully functional civil and vital registration system of birth, death, marriage and divorce in August this year.

For further information and confirmation of participation, please contact: Ms Elisa Rossetto, Communications and PR Officer, Italian Agency for Development Cooperation and Embassy of Italy in Ethiopia, tel: +25111 1235684, email: [email protected].
