Within the framework of the 4th EU-Arab League Ministerial Meeting (Cairo, 20 December 2016), Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias met with his Tunisian counterpart, Khemaies Jhinaoui, whose country holds the chairmanship of the Arab League.
The meeting focused on international and regional issues, giving Mr. Kotzias the opportunity to present Greece’s initiatives aimed at strengthening regional stability and promoting peace in the wider region. More specifically, Mr. Kotzias briefed his collocutor on the “Rhodes Conference” decisions and the spirit characterizing this particular initiative, through which an attempt is being made to develop positive cooperation among EU and Eastern Mediterranean countries in various fields, including culture, education, research and youth issues.
The meeting also looked at bilateral relations, and the need was ascertained for follow-up on the decisions taken in the context of the recent meeting of the Greek-Tunisian Joint Interministerial Committee. Moreover, the two Foreign Ministers exchanged invitations to carry out reciprocal visits, agreeing to schedule meetings between the Political Directors of the two countries’ Foreign Ministries.
