The 2015 general election in Nigeria has become one of the most talked about in recent months. This is not just because Nigeria is the largest economy in Africa and the most populous, but also because it is the first time that the period of election coincides with a time of high security concerns. The terrorist group Boko Haram has devastated areas of the North East of Nigeria. It is also a time when the government is being accused of not doing enough.

The Frontline Club will be playing host to five key officials who will be speaking to the press to address many of the allegations, as well as the speculations that have dominated the news in the UK and elsewhere. It will be an interactive discussion with members of the press, providing a comprehensive overview of the government’s efforts and initiatives over the last five years. The panelists will aim to shed light on the realities on the ground and help provide a balanced view of the situation in Nigeria from a number of standpoints, humanitarian, economic and political. The conversation will focus on the following topics:

– Elections
– The Insurgency
– Governance
– The Economy

The panelists will include:
  • Ambassador Ayodele Oke (CFR), Director General: National Intelligence Agency
  • Major General Chris Olukolade, Spokesperson: Nigerian Military
  • Mike Omeri, Director General: Oriental Agency
  • Stanley Lawson, Non-Executive Director: Central Bank of Nigeria
  • Yinka Odumakin, Spokesperson: Afenifere Group
