Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Lin Songtian Attends Inauguration Ceremony of China-Equatorial Guinea Friendship Primary School

On November 4, 2016, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Lin Songtian and Equatorial Guinean Ambassador to China Ekua Avomo visited Jinping Miao, Yao, and Dai Autonomous County of Yunnan Province to attend the inauguration ceremony of China-Equatorial Guinea Friendship Primary School. Nearly 600 people, including heads of governments of Yunnan Province, Honghe Prefecture and Jinping County, as well as teachers and students from the school, attended the ceremony.

In his speech, Lin Songtian expressed sincere gratitude to the generous donation from the Equatorial Guinean government and people. Lin Songtian said that unity, cooperation and mutual support between China and African countries goes way back. The donation from Equatorial Guinea to build a primary school in China fully embodies the profound friendship between the Equatorial Guinean government and people and the Chinese government and people. Such kindness shows us that when Africa develops, it will not forget to bring back benefits to China. The China-Equatorial Guinea Friendship Primary School, which is a significant example of Africa's aid and feedback to China, bears the new hope of carrying forward China-Africa friendship and promoting common development.

Ekua Avomo said in his speech that the China-Equatorial Guinea Friendship Primary School is an important symbol of bilateral friendship, a concrete reflection of Africa-China friendship and a bridge of friendship and culture between the two countries as well. It is hoped that the children will take over the baton of Equatorial Guinea-China friendship and contribute to the development of bilateral relations.

During his state visit to China in April, 2015 at the invitation of President Xi Jinping, President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea announced that the Equatorial Guinean government would donate 4.9 million yuan to build a teaching building for the Jinping County First Primary School in Yunnan Province, and rename it "China-Equatorial Guinea Friendship Primary School". Its construction started in July 2015, and was completed to put into use in November, 2016.
