G20 Summit

The G20 is taking place in Africa for the very first time. That alone is historic. But what makes this moment truly significant is the context in which it is unfolding.

A G20 hosted and led by South Africa will convene political and business leaders at a time of deep global fragmentation, where the divide between the West and the Global South is widening, trade rivalries are re-emerging, and long-standing power imbalances urgently require global reforms. Despite resistance, momentum toward a more inclusive global order is building, and this new order will take shape in Johannesburg from November 18–21 during the B20 convenings, and November 22–23 at the G20 Leaders’ Summit.

Over the coming weeks, African Business in partnership with Brand South Africa will publish analyses on priority themes, including climate finance and energy transitions, debt and multilateral reform, and trade and industrial policy, alongside conversations with African policymakers and business leaders. We will examine Africa’s new role in global decision-making and the global economy, while looking at how South Africa is driving this new agenda and advancing key initiatives at home.
