Olam Ghana donates towards National Farmers’ Day

Olam Ghana has donated an amount of GH¢150,000.00 to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture towards the 35th National Farmers’ Day celebration.

The 35th Edition of the celebration is themed around: “Enhancing Small Scale Agriculture towards Agribusiness Development” and will be hosted in the Volta Region.

Making the donation at the premises of the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in Accra, Mr. Amit Agrawal, Country Head of Olam Ghana said “National Farmers Day is an important celebration to honour our farmers and their communities. They should be immensely proud of their valuable contribution, which not only makes a positive difference to all of our lives every day but will inevitably be part of the solution to feeding the demands of the world’s growing population sustainably. 

“That’s why Olam has been working with and learning from farmers for many years, to increase incomes and opportunities. There are still significant challenges that we need to overcome, but we will continue to work together and invest in the future of farming for our country, to unlock its true potential that we are all set to benefit from.” Mr. Amit Agrawal was accompanied by Eric Botwe; Business Head of Olam Cocoa and Kenneth Antwi; National Head of HR.

On 6th December, National Farmers Day will recognise and celebrate the valuable contribution of farmers to Ghana’s communities and national development. With a buying network of 282,000 cocoa and 25,000 cashew smallholders and 25 years’ experience working to support them, Olam is acutely aware of the importance of Ghana’s farmers to the success of the business. 

In Ghana, around 280,000 cocoa and 25,000 cashew smallholder farmers are embraced under the Olam Livelihood Charter (OLC), Olam’s flagship sustainability programme, with holistic economic, social and environmental support. 

 Receiving the donation, Minister of State in Charge of Food & Agriculture and Chairman of the planning committee for this year’s celebration, Hon. Dr. Gyiele Nurah, expressed gratitude to the company for their donation.  He said the donations will go a long way to recognise and reward hard-working farmers in the country.
